About Hungary, Budapest and the University

Hungary is located literally in the heart of Europe, and it is easy to access from all over the world. Budapest, the capital of Hungary has a population of 1,8 million people, and it is the 9th largest city of the European Union.

Budapest has a uniquely rich historical and cultural heritage starting from the ancient Romans, continuing with the Hungarians who settled the Carpathian Basin 1100 years ago, the Germans, who had colonies here in the medieval times, the Ottoman Turks, who conquered the city in the 16-17th century, the Serbians, Slovakians, Romanians, and other nations, who are living in the neighbouring countries... and of course Budapest has some remnants from the past communist era too.

Nowadays, Budapest is a real multicultural city which is well-known for its breathtaking location at the two sides of Danube, colourful architecture, plenty of monuments, museums, galleries, world famous thermal baths, city parks, forests, hills, sport venues, exciting cultural events, concerts, theater shows, and for its amazing night-life with wide range of restaurants, bars, night clubs (some of them are worldwide known) and, of course the typical Hungarian ‘ruin pubs’.

Many other places of Hungary are definitely worth to visit as well, for example the Lake Balaton which is the largest fresh lake in Central Europe. All of these places can be accessed from Budapest in a few hours. Hungary hosts some of the best festivals in Europe during the whole summer, such as the Sziget Festival in Budapest.

It is an additional advantage that Budapest is not an expensive city. You can study here at a moderate living cost. For example, you can get a proper meal for 4-5 EUR and drink a beer for 1-2 EUR in the center of the city. You can also try the world famous Hungarian wine and palinka at a reasonable price. (It will help you to learn some expressions in Hungarian, which is said to be one of the most difficult languages of the world.)

The Corvinus University of Budapest is located in the very center of Budapest at the side of the Danube. Our campus combines tradition with our main building, and progression with our brand new, super-modern building. Our University has a very eventful student life, with student organizations, interesting lectures, cultural events, sport life, and, of course student parties. The Corvinus University of Budapest - as the only university in Hungary - won StudyPortal's Excellent International Student Satisfaction Award in 2015.
